This is a fabulous place in the heart of the hotel to take a pre dinner drink, raise a glass in celebration, meet up with friends, or just soak up the presence of a room that is 14th century and was originally part of a Monastery which stood on the original site of The George.
Refreshments and lodging have been offered to travellers and pilgrims from this location since the time of the Doomsday book, in which the inn is mentioned, and most probably for quite some time before that. The 'Walter Scott' room behind the bar also has considerable age.
Today the selection of beverages is somewhat different - cocktails, several marques of Champagnes by the glass, bottle and even magnum, wines, popular ever increasing 'brands' of gins, vodkas and whiskeys - these all sit alongside famous favourites and traditional draft and bottled beers and ciders. So spoilt for choice!
